What is counseling?
- Counseling is not a way for people to find out if they’re crazy, but is a way to get support because sometimes the world can seem pretty crazy.
- Counseling does not focus only on challenges regarded as major problems, dismissing things some may regard as less important problems, but instead counseling focuses on the issues the client identifies and works with the client to strengthen and manage his or her challenges.
- Counseling is not an activity for self-absorbed people, but instead is a way to improve interpersonal relationships.
- Counseling is not an activity where the expert analyzes the client, but is where client and counselor work as a team to make positive changes in the client’s approach to life.
- Counseling is not a crutch for weak people, but rather is a means for strong people who decide to face their challenges directly rather than continue in more frightened or escape-oriented ways of dealing with difficulties.
